Bowdoin College Singing Groups Coming to Thomaston

A special treat for all ages is coming to Thomaston's Watts Hall on Friday, March 5th, at 7 PM. The two a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment) groups are called the Meddiebempsters and the BellaMafia and will entertain everyone with a variety of song choices.
The Bowdoin College Meddiebempsters are the nation's third oldest a cappella group and the oldest student organization at Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine. Since 1937, the men of the Meddiebempsters have been entertaining audiences with their music as well as with their fun-loving stage presence. Singing everything from jazz standards to classic rock to oldies and up to today's pop, the Meddies perform for groups of all ages and sizes.
The lovely ladies of Bowdoin College's BellaMafia have been lighting up stages since 2005. With five solid years of growth and experience, the group now performs from an entertaining collection of pop, rock, oldies, and 80's tunes. Known for their high energy and varied repertoire, they love to challenge preconceived notions about all female a cappella. They are proud to announce the release of their first CD, Ransom Notes, which they finished recording and producing last spring.
Each group will perform for about 45 minutes separated by a fifteen-minute intermission during which refreshments will be available. The singers are being brought to Thomaston by The Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist and the proceeds will go towards supporting both the church and our on-going support of a school in Fiervil, Haiti. The performance is appropriate for a mixed audience, young and old, as well as families, and sure to be enjoyed by all.
Tickets are $15 each and seating is limited. Tickets are available at the St. John's church office at the corner of Main and Green Streets in Thomaston from 9 - 12 noon daily; at The Personal Book Shop in Thomaston, The Reading Corner in Rockland and The Owl & Turtle Bookshop in Camden during regular business hours.
